The AI Authority Index

The AI Authority Index

How the AI engines Australian buyers ask describe, recommend, and source the companies in a market. One edition per market, each measured on one instrument.

A public measure of AI authority

The AI Authority Index is Third Hemisphere's public measure of which companies AI engines name, recommend, and caution against when Australian buyers ask them for help, published one market at a time.

Each edition asks a market's own buyer questions of ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity, reads every answer, and places each company the engines name on the Star Chart.

Buyers increasingly ask an AI engine before they ask a supplier. The Index shows, in public and on one method, which companies those answers put forward, so a market can see what it has been invisible to.

A market publishes the companies its answers rank highest. No company can pay to be included or to be placed, and Third Hemisphere's clients are measured on the same instrument as everyone else.

  • Published by: Third Hemisphere
  • Engines asked: ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity
  • Measured on: CRISP is Third Hemisphere's proprietary technology and methodology, built upon the most cutting edge global standards and research.

Six places a company can stand

The Star Chart places each company on two measures. Presence, across, is the share of answers that name it; Reputation, up, is whether the engines recommend it for its benefits or caution against it. Six cells name where it stands.

  • AI Famous: Named in 30 percent of answers or more, and recommended for its benefits more often than cautioned against.
  • Rising Star: Named in 15 to 29 percent of answers, and recommended for its benefits more often than cautioned against when it is.
  • Cult Favourite: Named in under 15 percent of answers, and recommended for its benefits in the answers that reach it.
  • AI Infamous: Named in 30 percent of answers or more, and cautioned against more often than recommended.
  • Bad Press: Named in 15 to 29 percent of answers, and cautioned against more often than recommended.
  • Off the Guest List: Named in under 15 percent of answers, and cautioned against more often than recommended when it is.
  1. Off the Guest List: Rarely named, and cautioned against when it is.
  2. Cult Favourite: Recommended by the few answers that reach it.
  3. Rising Star: Named more often, and still recommended.
  4. AI Famous: Named by default, and recommended for its benefits.

Five factors, one instrument

  • Consensus. Do the engines agree about you? Your buyers do not all use the same engine. If only some of them name you, being found comes down to which one a buyer opens.
  • Reputation. Do they speak in your favour? Being named is not being chosen. This is whether the engines put you forward when a buyer is deciding.
  • Influence. Do trusted third parties back what is said about you? Engines repeat what credible third parties publish. When others carry your story, the engines tell it your way.
  • Source. Can AI read and trust your own site? Engines check what they say against what they can read. A thin record, a contradicted one, or a site they cannot read counts against you.
  • Presence. Do they mention you when buyers don't name you? Most buyers describe a need before they know a name. If the engines do not bring you up then, nothing else can happen.

About the AI Authority Index

What is the AI Authority Index?

The AI Authority Index is Third Hemisphere's public measure of which companies AI engines name, recommend, and caution against when Australian buyers ask them for help, published one market at a time. Each edition asks a market's own buyer questions of ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity, reads every answer, and places each company the engines name on the Star Chart.

How does the Star Chart place a company?

Across, by Presence: named in under 15 percent of answers is rarely named, 15 to 29 percent is named at the edge, and 30 percent or more is named by default. Up, by Reputation: recommended for its benefits more often than cautioned against, or the reverse. The six cells that makes are AI Famous, Rising Star, Cult Favourite, AI Infamous, Bad Press, and Off the Guest List.

Which AI engines does the Index ask?

Every edition asks ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity, the same engines for every market, so one market reads against another.

What does the Index measure?

Five factors, the CRISP measure: Consensus, Reputation, Influence, Source, and Presence. Presence and Reputation draw the chart; all five make the composite that orders companies within a cell.

Who is included?

A market publishes the companies its answers rank highest. No company can pay to be included or to be placed, and Third Hemisphere's clients are measured on the same instrument as everyone else.

Is it free to read?

Yes. Each edition's page describes the market for anyone, and the full edition, with every company's place, opens once a reader enters their details.
