Presence
How often the engines name a company when a buyer describes the need without naming it. Presence is the share of answers that name the company, and it places the company across the Star Chart™.
What it tells a buyer or a marketer
Most buyers describe a need before they know a name. Presence measures whether the engines bring a company up at that moment, on questions that name no company, so every company in an answer was put forward by the engine itself.
A company the engines do not bring up cannot be shortlisted from those answers, which is why Presence is often the first factor to work on.
What a low and a high reading mean
The CRISP™ methodology states what a reading on either side of 50 means for each factor, in the words a report prints. For Presence, below 50: "The engines do not bring you up. Nothing else can happen until they do." At or above 50: "The engines reach you when a buyer describes what they want."
How it appears on the AI Authority Index™
Presence places a company across the Star Chart. The lines at 15 and 30 divide the chart into three columns: rarely named, named at the edge, and named by default. The number of answers that name a company also decides whether it joins the Leaderboard, at 30 answers.
A company below that cut is still listed Under the Radar, with the number of answers that named it, so the Index shows every brand a market's answers name.
What moves it
Engines answer from what is published about a category. Presence rises as a company appears in the sources the engines draw on when they answer category questions, such as reviews, comparisons, and news coverage, and as its own site describes what it offers in the words buyers use. Each edition asks a market's own buyer questions, so the words that count are the ones buyers use to describe the need.
