Star Chart

Glossary

Star Chart™

A chart that places each company by two factors: Presence across and Reputation up. Lines at 15 and 30 percent of answers across, and at 50 up, divide it into six cells.

What it tells a buyer or a marketer

The Star Chart shows two things at once: how often the engines name a company, and whether they speak in its favour when they do. A single score can hide that difference. The chart shows it.

Each of the six cells names a position, from a company named by default and recommended to one rarely named and cautioned against, and each points at different work. For a marketer, the cell is the plainest statement of what to work on: Presence for the cells on the left, Reputation for the bottom row, and keeping both for the top right.

How it appears on the AI Authority Index™

Every market's edition draws its Leaderboard on the Star Chart. Presence runs across it, cut at 15 and 30, and Reputation runs up it, cut at 50. The cuts are the same for every market. The top row holds AI Famous™, Rising Star™, and Cult Favourite™, and the bottom row holds AI Infamous™, Bad Press™, and Off the Guest List™.

A company is placed only when its Presence and its net Reputation are both measured. One that cannot be placed says why, and is never put in a cell by default. The free AI Authority Check™ places a company on the same chart, so it can be read beside the companies an edition publishes.

What moves a company on it

A company moves across the chart as its Presence changes, and up or down as its Reputation changes. Each edition reads a new sample, so the chart shows where a company stood in that edition's answers.
