Third Hemisphere translated Australia's flagship quantum conference into five sector-specific stories and pitched nearly 1,500 journalists. Quantum landed in the AFR as a financial services story, in the SMH and The Age as a geopolitics story, and across ABC Radio and six sector trade outlets, proving a technical story lands in mainstream media when it speaks each audience's language.
The Challenge
Quantum Australia runs the country's flagship quantum technology conference. Quantum computing is one of the hardest stories in technology to land: the science is abstract, the commercial applications feel distant, and general news desks default to hype or scepticism. The brief for the Adelaide conference was to move quantum out of the science pages and into the coverage that matters to the industry's buyers and backers: financial services, mining, health, and government.
Our Strategy
Rather than issue one conference release, Third Hemisphere wrote five: a distinct version for technology and science media, financial services, mining, health and pharma, and government, each leading with the sector's own quantum use case.
The Execution
The team pitched nearly 1,500 journalists, including radio rounds, and briefed conference spokespeople for interviews across the week.
The Results
The AFR ran "Quantum computer-powered hackers the next cyber-threat for major banks", landing quantum as a financial services story. The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age ran "'Huge validation': Trump administration backs Aussie quantum tech", picked up by the NZ Herald. Spokespeople gave multiple ABC Radio interviews across Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide, and the Central Coast, and sector trade coverage ran in Investor Daily, Mining.com.au, InnovationAus, Pharma in Focus, The Quantum Insider, and Yahoo Finance.
