Australian fusion energy company HB11 Energy has joined the Industrial Council of TINEX, a $US180 million initiative by the US government aimed at advancing inertial (laser) fusion energy. TINEX (Target Injector Nexus Collaboration for Inertial Fusion Energy Concepts) is the only program dedicated to supporting inertial fusion, a field pioneered by HB11 Energy’s Australian team. As one of the few non-US participants, HB11 will contribute to solving critical challenges in precision fuel pellet injection and tracking for laser fusion reactors.
Led by General Atomics, TINEX will leverage the expertise and resources of the US Department of Energy (DoE) at institutions including Colorado State University, SLAC National Accelerator, UC San Diego, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Managing Director Dr. Warren McKenzie expressed pride in representing Australia on the council, highlighting HB11’s role in shaping the future of clean fusion energy.
This collaboration positions HB11 Energy at the forefront of global fusion research, strengthening Australia’s presence in the race toward commercial fusion power.
