Winning the Global Competition for Tech Talent: Navigating Hybrid Work and Skills Gaps

The global talent shortage for skilled tech professionals continues to intensify, with demand in areas like AI and data science far surpassing supply. Amid a competitive job market and shifts toward hybrid work, major employers, including Google, Meta, and Amazon, have sought a return-to-office model, requiring workers to attend the workplace at least three days a week.

 

However, the shift hasn’t been universally accepted, as seen in Australia, where the Public Service Association successfully pushed back against NSW public servants’ mandated office return.

This environment has driven companies like CI&T, a global digital services provider, to invest heavily in upskilling initiatives to bridge the talent gap.

 

The company’s Asia-Pacific SVP, Felipe Rubim, highlighted the importance of flexibility in retaining talent, as a hybrid work culture has become a key expectation. At ViewTrade, a financial platform provider, Chief Revenue Officer Laksh Gangwani noted that companies failing to retain skilled employees risk not only losing valuable knowledge but also damaging employee morale and competitiveness. Both firms recognize that adaptable work environments and targeted AI and data science training are essential to meet growing industry demands.
