The Challenge
Australia’s biotech and medtech sector is highly technical, research-driven, and globally competitive. The challenge was to elevate breakthrough science into mainstream visibility, build investor and government confidence, and position emerging innovators as credible commercial players. This required translating complex research, clinical advancements, and commercialisation milestones into compelling national narratives.
Our Strategy
Third Hemisphere built long-term strategic communications partnerships across Australia’s biotech ecosystem, working with organisations including Cicada Innovations, Jumar Bioincubator, WEHI, SpeeDx, CSL, and multiple medtech startups.
The approach combined sustained Tier-1 media engagement, government and ministerial amplification, commercialisation program support, and mainstream broadcast features. Campaigns spanned COVID-19 response coverage, incubator launches, healthtech hub announcements, and national innovation initiatives, positioning clients at the forefront of Australia’s life sciences sector.
The Results
Over more than eight years representing Cicada Innovations and supporting resident biotech companies, the team secured national Tier-1 business and broadcast coverage across outlets including the Financial Review, Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph and Forbes. This included the successful launch of the Jumar Bioincubator in partnership with CSL and WEHI, the launch of the Cicada HealthTech Hub with federal ministerial engagement, amplification of medtech leaders such as Brisbane Radiology, ARIA Research and Tessara Technologies, and support for medical device commercialisation initiatives including the Medical Device Commercialisation Training Program.
